I agree with Bill.

We are currently in the process of going from z/OS V1.4 to V1.7. Our LE on
V1.4 has not had maintenance for over 1 year. The Cobol Compiler is at
3.3.1. When we attempted to get the 3.4 Cobol compiler used, we ran into an
issue with the SEARCH ALL function in Cobol. In V3.4 the compiler has
changed to look for a new subroutine. Because the V1.4 system is so old, it
the program fails with a missing COBOL module. But under the V1.7 system
all is well.

We are going to continue to use the V3.3.1 Cobol Compiler under z/OS V1.7
until all of our systems are at V1.7. then we will work on converting the
compiler from V3.3 to V3.4. This is only due to the fact we need to
complete our operating system upgrade within the next 3 weeks or be delayed
until after July of this year.

Had our system been current under z/OS V1.4 there would not have been an
issue.
