Walter,
We have done a similar exercise, our channel attached Xerox printers had a 
lot of forms, overlays etc. in uniquely Xerox format.  We replaced them 
with Xerox IP printers and to handle the formats we installed XPAF from 
Xerox.  Xerox did the data conversions for us.  We also run CA-Spool to 
replace Printway, early releases of which we found to be a dreadful 
product - broken by design (search the IBM-MAIN archives).  I guess we 
could replace CA-Spool by XPAF, but not vice-versa.
Contact your Xerox representative.  Neither I nor AGCO have any commercial 
interest in Xerox that I know of.
