I'm also looking forward to z/OS 1.9, especially if I can UNDO after a SAVE;
that will be a really useful feature!

Also discussed in the email below is the ability to use system and
user-defined symbols in data set names. I'm not sure if the poster is aware
of this, but the version of SimpList which supports this feature is
currently only available to beta-testers. The new version (1.3) won't be
generally available until sometime in March. I just wanted to make this
clear before anyone rushes off to download SimpList version 1.2 from the
MacKinney web site and then discovers they can't use symbols.

By the way Don, are you aware that symbols can also be used in objects
assigned to labels? For example, if you have an object that looks like this:

'&ZUSER..ISPF.PROFILE'

You could give the object a label called .P (or .PROF, or whatever you
want). You could then browse the object from any command line by entering BR
.P (or ED .P to edit it, etc). So, no matter what userid you logged on with,
you'd always browse or edit the right data set just by entering the label name. Note that this works for any type of object; e.g. data set, VSAM file, DB2 table,
PC/workstation file (etc).

Another goodie in the z/OS 1.9 announcement is an ISPF change that allows you to UNDO beyond a previously-issued SAVE command. I've been waiting for something like that for years.

Still another is the ability to use system symbols in data set names on various ISPF panels. That's another excellent enhancement, but I was hoping there would be some kind of support for user defined symbols also.

I am already using an ISPF product that does just that, and I find it to be indispensable. I am dreading the day that my contract ends and I move to a shop where they don't have a tool that can do this. :-(
