Is there an easier way to do a DELVVR for a VVR that points to a
non-existent catalog?
With IBM tools, there is no way to DELETE VVR to get rid of a duplicate
VVR. What you did is the best way to fix these.
As Michael said, there are non-IBM tools which can fix this without
disturbing the accurate VVR.
