For me it was a (card based) CDC 6400 in Uni.
First job was trainee IBM systems programmer. So basically it was
useless re technical issues.

Back then grads were hired (and payed more) presumably because we had
been taught to think, not that we had been taught what to think.
And in fact most of my year went into retail trainee management - at the
info sessions, the point was re-iterated. They didn't care what course
you had done, so long as you had shown the commitment to finish it.

I have my doubts any of the above applies today.
