I'm looking for some ideas on how to handle the following situation and
wanted to know if anyone had an alterative or might be doing the same
thing, We plan on putting a system stand alone at a remote site shortly
for XRC/GDPS mirroring. We have ordered an ICC card for it and locally
tested with it to do a remote IPL etc. As a console that works fine.
Wanted to have a back up plan so if we lost for example Vtam and
couldn't get it up on the system to have a small Vtam proc and a local
majnode (will this even work, used to with a 2074/23174) that would
allow us to use the ICC but also as a 'local' screen to logon via TSO.
Then we could logon fix out problem (e.g. catalog problem) then ipl. As
far as I know TSO still needs Vtam to logon, if not please correct me.
Is anyone doing this? We know there are products out there that for
example SEA makes one that allows us to get onto a 'dead' system with a
stand alone product but we wanted to come up with a more economical
solution ;)

At Clearing, our boxen were 13 miles from the offices; we used VISARA
boxen to provide remote console and IPL capability via VPN. Having
multiple LPARs and a policy of never bringing down all LPARs at once
without a backward path, we only visited the boxen in the remote site
about every 6 months.
