I wasn't aware that the tax entities (governments) charged extra.  The
Illinois Dept. of Revenue's web-based filing is free, but I don't find a
similar means to file the federal return.  So, I use the tax preparer's
services, and it is the tax preparer who charges "extra" to e-file.
