I am currently installing z/OS 1.8 and trawling through our local mods. It seems that we have an HSM initialisation exit that simply issues a LOAD for IDCAMS and IDCXP01. I suspect that this was implemented in the dim & distant to help with a performance problem (extra LOAD means there will always be a copy in storage). Surely HSM performance has moved on and this is no longer required, but all the guys that may have known the reason for this mod have left the organisation. The stats on the source code member date from 1988 - I was here, but just a boy!
The LOAD for IDCAMS is perhaps understandable, but I can find no reference to IDCXP01. Do any of you good folks have a memory why this may have been implemented?
