That is true, but the fact remains that the interface is the macro. If a
service does not work as you think it ought to and you would like IBM
service to help you, and  IBM service finds that you did not use the
documented macro as the means of calling the service, they are well within
their rights not to help.

If you choose not to use the macro, that is indeed your choice. But my
point still applies: you had better get it 100% right.
