While it doesn't happen often, VM discussions are allowed. >> Back in the olden days, we ran VM and MVS and were having trouble communicating. Mostly with Cross domain, printer set-up, PSF options and the like. It was one of the reasons this list was started. As participants in early ARPAnet and BITnet it was obvious other folks were having similar problems and discussions. As mailer and listserv software got better and more sophisticated, other groups spun off as enhancements were introduced. Most notably MVS-OE, DOM390 and others. IBM was very late to the game. We were stuck under Software Mall as hardware for several years. When Almaden pulled the plug it was a long time before they could find anyone to configure a new server to feed the news groups. When IBM dropped HESC guess the VM% shrunk as folks moved to more friendly priced *Nix environment. It's been an arduous journey at times as different mindsets and backgrounds come and go and funding gets moved around. Think we went 18 months at one time during three straight years of proration where we couldn't find $58 dollars a month to upgrade. As more developers and vendors participated, it grew into a robust resource. VM, MVS/VSE, OE, USS, VTAM very broad base. When we had the debate about whether to shut down for Y2K you'd be surprised how many countries Minister's of information requested that it be kept up. Every continent except Antarctica wrote the director with reasons and whyfors...it was kept up! It's Friday! ************************************** AOL now offers free email to everyone.
