I'll be the first to admit that I could be wrong on it. It is odd that
the overall description, it says Development, but on the application for
a contract, it states "soley for testing." I would be happy as heck to
be wrong on it, and the rates do seem relativly reasonable, still more
than a FLEX box, but a lot less than a z900 bc.

Also, to clarify, this service isn't new. I've been using it since some
release of MVS/ESA V4 (1992?). It's essentially "time sharing" for the
upcoming release of the operating system (running under VM).

IBM configures the base system and keeps it current with the latest
driver(s) and/or maintenance. And, the people in Dallas, TX that do the
work are "top notch"! You IPL and customize your VM guest system and, of
course, pay for the cycles.

The other offering is running a system "in house" from local tape. They
send you new tapes every month or so; you reload the operating system.

I had always assumed that nearly all serious ISVs used one or the other
or both of these early development/testing options. I may have been
wrong.
