I agree with Rich's comments. In addition, as a general rule, newer versions of z/VM and Linux incorporate efficiency gains. Said another way, you'll probably need less hardware capacity to sustain 100 Linux guests if you use newer z/VM and newer Linux compared to old versions.
Also, newer hardware has better price-performance than older hardware. In the past 5 years the mainframe Linux processors have approximately tripled in speed. Said another way, don't consider the hardware a fixed element in your calculation unless you already have the fastest available hardware. - - - - - Timothy Sipples IBM Consulting Enterprise Software Architect Specializing in Software Architectures Related to System z Based in Tokyo, Serving IBM Japan and IBM Asia-Pacific E-Mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For IBM-MAIN subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the message: GET IBM-MAIN INFO Search the archives at http://bama.ua.edu/archives/ibm-main.html
