I agree with Rich's comments.  In addition, as a general rule, newer
versions of z/VM and Linux incorporate efficiency gains.  Said another way,
you'll probably need less hardware capacity to sustain 100 Linux guests if
you use newer z/VM and newer Linux compared to old versions.

Also, newer hardware has better price-performance than older hardware.  In
the past 5 years the mainframe Linux processors have approximately tripled
in speed.  Said another way, don't consider the hardware a fixed element in
your calculation unless you already have the fastest available hardware.
