Our systems are getting more and more complex - with individuals only interacting with our own portions of the systems. The OS that the database server is on, the protocol sending the data to me, the security in my local server, and even the OS that my personal computer is using are not what I care about when I ask my business question (assuming I'm a user). A bunch of other people care about those steps. Those other people will make recommendations to their bosses, who will make decisions based upon their business needs. For me, if they change the database server from z/OS to Unix based - it doesn't matter, as long as I get meaningful, safe, timely data without impinging on privacy laws and such. The hardware and software are about my bosses getting the best value for their $ for their needs. Nothing more. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For IBM-MAIN subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the message: GET IBM-MAIN INFO Search the archives at http://bama.ua.edu/archives/ibm-main.html
