The original name was 'JAF'. I made a joke during the disclosure that, when IBM would eventually decide to extend the technology with 'Functional Extensions' (JAFFE), I would not claim infringement of any sort.

By the time the hardware and software was developed/tested, it had been renamed to 'IFA'. That name persists today.

The "official" name was changed to 'zAAP' by marketing people at (practically) the last minute. Far too late to make any sort of change in already-developed hardware and software.
