Java is usually put into the usr/lpp directory.
It may be embedded in WebSphere if you have it.
$ echo $JAVA_HOME
/usr/lpp/zWebSphere/V6R0/java/J1.4
$ echo $PATH
.:/bin:/usr/lpp/zWebSphere/V6R0/java/J1.4/bin:

The PATH should point to the bin directory and JAVA_HOME the directory
containing bin
