Well, future potential has more than one side. If software has the biggest potential for IBM, it also has the biggest potential for competitors. It's not obvious to me that IBM's advantages over its competitors in these software areas are significant. Software might be the most important if it has a multiplier effect - that a big data warehouse fits nicely on a big mainframe.
