Gil,
If I understand correctly, I believe that is an accurate statement. If
you create a symbolicrelate to an alias you can use system symbolics in
batch. We do something for DB2, this made the transisiton to V8 smoother
since the apps people did not have to change there jobs. There is more
to the transistion process we do, but I just wanted to KISS, KISS. BTW
this type of alias is not a voliatle as "normal" related type aliases.
ALIAS --------- DSN710.TARGETA.SDSNLOAD
IN-CAT --- CATALOG.SYSTEM.SOFTWARE
HISTORY
RELEASE----------------2
ASSOCIATIONS
SYMBOLIC-&DB2REL..&DB2TGT..SDSNLOAD
RESOLVED-DSN810.TGTB.SDSNLOAD
And in our IEASYMXX we have a SYMDEF &DB2REL.=DSN810 and &DB2TGT.=TGTB
Thanks,
Fletch

I know, this has been belabored tediously here, but this may be a new
wrinkle. I believe:
o Symbolic aliases in catalogs are resolved by substituting values
of system symbols for their names.
o System symbols are not available to batch JCL.
o So, may I conclude that symbolic DSNAME aliases must not be employed
in batch JCL?
