Remember when 20% of the student enrollment wanted to major in COMP SCI ?

Many of you know that I have decided to leave NIU and that this is my
final semester (final month, now) teaching here. Reduced enrollments
have taken their toll on computer science departments, and ours is
hurting as much as any. One consequence of that drop is a lot of
discussion about the future of the program with regard to its
emphasis on enterprise & mainframe computing.

That discussion is being picked up by one of our graduate students
who is taking a course in Systems Programming with Robert Rannie this
semester. She will be giving a talk on the subject one week from
today, and I just found a poster for the event in the hall outside my
office. I thought the list might enjoy seeing the poster (designed
by an English major friend of hers!). Clearly, there are reasons I
will regret leaving.
