Peter,
Calm down.
Nobody is picking on anyone, crush working relationships, or trying to
over step authority. Yes, good relations are crucial and I doubt that very
many sysprogs are out there undermining that. The simple fact is that in
most medium to large organizations, lines do need to be drawn in order to
keep people focused on the jobs they are hired to do. Yes, it can instill
some frustration, especially if you came from a smaller environment and
are used to diving in where ever you wish.
Believe it or not, even sysprogs have limitations placed on their
activities. In some cases, so strict that they can't get trivial tasks
completed without major approvals.
Today, I would think that Parmlib security is pretty much a standard in
most large shops. Any information that you think you may be lacking due to
your inability to browse at-will, should be adequately documented. My quip
actually dates back to experiences back in the 80's. I wouldn't really
expect much of that happening today. Please note that I do make a
distinction on organizational size. This makes a very big difference as to
how you run things. And, as to the job titles, many of us have worn many
different hats over the years and have been on different sides of the
fence. I don't think this is an argument as much as a criticism on certain
individuals bent on being somewhat disruptive or worse.

Ditto....ever have "users" cruise your parmlib and then tell you how to
tune the system? Solution: UACC(NONE).
Oh really? And did you then publish elsewhere the contents of LNKLST,
the
APF list, and other important system info stored in PARMLIB that is NOT
performance related?
