IBM has just announced they're reducing the cost for renting mainframe time. Here's a quote from their newsletter:

"On August 1, 2007, IBM will offer all PartnerWorld members who qualify for mainframe server benefits the ability to participate in the enhanced Remote Development Program at a cost substantially lower than offered previously. For example, the “Dedicated Fixed Monthly Cost Advanced z/OS V1 R8 Remote Development Program” offering, which is currently priced at US$2000/month will cost less than US$500/month. Additional cost may be incurred for additional requirements."
