About 15 years ago I used to teach TCP/IP for MVS (now the z/OS Communications Server IP component) - but I've forgotten a lot. One topic I hadn't realised I'd forgotten was NFS so, when I saw your post, I thought I'll see my presentation notes about this and I'll be able to provide an answer from them.

Well, it turns out I can but not what I expected. The first line of the presentation section on NFS says "> No TCP/IP for MVS Client Support".

Well, that was 15 or so years ago so I thought maybe there have been changes and there is now some NFS client support.

Today's IP User's Guide and Commands manual has only one hit with NFS and that's a reference to RFC 1094 NFS: "Network File System Protocol specification Sun Microsystems" in a standard appendix. Thus it seems my presentation text may still be correct.

That'll be a "gotcha" I expect - unless there's a separate product somewhere - which is not impossible given that the NFS *server* function was - and maybe still is - separate from TCP/IP for MVS.

You are very likely to find much of the information you may need regarding z/OS client capabilities in the z/OS Communications Server IP User's Guide and Commands manual - not what I would describe as "sparse" but then expectations differ. In addition you will find system programmer stuff relating to installing clients in the IP Configuration Guide and IP Configuration Reference.

I decided to check that last sentence. In fact, all I can spot is the discussion of the "resolver" topic which is nevertheless vital for "client" functions. And there is one small exception in that the SNMP management function is covered which is the "client" in the SNMP "client-server" relationship, more often described as a "manager-agent" relationship.

And I can sort-of cheat! Support for "X Window" in z/OS is strictly *client* support so that's a "client" described in the IP Configuration Guide and Reference.

Subject: z/OS NFS Client to Linux NFS

I have been asked to set up z/OS NFS client to access Linux files on Redhat. I have searched the archives and found little information. Documentation on
z/OS client is very sparse.
Any pointers/problems/gotchas etc I should be aware of. The requirement is to have 100 plus user accessing 50 or so folders on Linux to update files on
Linux system/s.
