I got this example working :

I extended the above example by having a procedural COBOL program
calling OO COBOL which invoked the Java class. That worked too. I am
currently trying to figure how to do it the other way round.
I do not think, I tried the OO COBOL part on USS exclusively, though.
Nevertheless, there _is_ quite a curve involved !
