When you forget the terminology it's impossible to Google or anything.
Sorry about the stupid question, but:
What is this new support for large datasets in, I think z/OS 1.7 or 1.8
called? I wanted to Google to find the size differences.
I've Googled for 10 minutes and without the proper keywords it isn't
easy. (-:
DFSMS Release 1.7 added support for
Large Format Data Sets. These
data sets can exceed 65,535 tracks
per volume.
Large format data sets (i.e., nonextended format sequential data
sets) can be up to 16M (16,777,215) tracks in size. Regular
sequential data sets can be up to 64K tracks in size.
To allocate a large format data set, use DSNTYPE=LARGE after
making sure whatever programs will process it support large
format data sets. (JES2 and JES3 spool and both DFSMShsm and
DFSMSrmm journal data sets support them.)
