Yes you could tapecopy then issue a Taperepl command against the original tape. You would then issue a Delvol command to delete the incorrect tape from HSM control. Alternatively they could issue a Recycle command against the tape to be deleted and then issue the Delvol when the Recycle completed.

Hi listers,

a customer of me has no tape management, but hsm. He has defined several
backup and migration tapes to hsm and lets hsm decide which tape to
mount volspecific, so far so good. For some time they have defined 2
tapes from the wrong number range to hsm. They want to get them out of
hsm. Is it possible to TAPECOPY them to a tape in the correct number
range and afterwards delete the incorrectly defined volumes from hsm?
