This is an entirely different thing. I don't receive hardcopy of IBM
Announcement Letters. I do receive hardcopy of the withdrawal notice
associated with any product for which my company is licensed. This
notice is sent one year in advance of the actual withdrawal. It's almost
always for a release of the software we stopped running ages ago.

I think it's worth noting that the announcement mentioned by Ed
was not just about withdrawl of product. It also listed features
being withdrawn from ongoing products. I don't know how well this information is distributed, nor how much attention is given when
it is received.

I *do* know the features being withdrawn from VTAM and TCP/IP
have been mentioned (or at least noted in the appexdices of handouts) at SHARE sessions. Some of the announcements - the
more confusing ones - have been discussed and clarified.

BTW, Another successful vehicle delivering this information: Cheryl
Watson's newletters. I think the information is pretty easily available to most shops. And I'm equally sure that some shops will be caught off-guard.

I agree with Pat. I have seen product withdrawal notices in announcements for a long time. I have seen withdrawal of functions within a single product in announcements for newer versions/release for that specific product. Of course now that "z/OS" includes so many things that used to be separate products that covers a lot.

I don't remember ever getting a announcement that only had a list of withdrawn functions only.
