************* Cross posted to IBM Main and LPAR Pricing **************** I am looking for a view as to how people work out if they are getting a good deal on purchases of new mainframe capacity (whole CEC's or extra capacity). Sometimes it feels to me a bit like buying a car - it depends on how good a bargainer you are how good a deal you get - and even then you can guarantee you'll find someone else who has got a better deal.
We were looking to use analyst information as to what we could expect to pay, but have found that not to be an accurate method in that the guide prices from the analysts seem way below what we are actually getting. So I am looking for guidance on what others do. Id specifically like anything you can answer on the following: 1) Do you use analysts prices - if so which analysts do you use (Gartner, Forrester, A-nother) 2) How close do you get to the analysts recommended price 3) Have you ever seen a published list price for IBM CEC's and extra capacity (ie extra CP's, Memory, channels) 4) What is your approach to negotiating the best deal and how do you know you've got a good one I'll happily take off-line emails or phone calls if people are not comfortable with sharing this information in open forum Peter Gammage IT Architect ISOS Server Services Standard Life Employee Services Limited 2nd floor, Dundas House, 20 Brandon Street Edinburgh, EH3 5PP Tel: +44(0) 131-245-7024 Mob: +44(0) 773-659-2559 Email: [EMAIL PROTECTED] This e-mail is confidential, if you are not the intended recipient, do not retain/disclose it and please return it to us.
