A few years back I inherited SAS (and ITRM) and MXG and have to make do with what was setup. The sales people are here regularly, as we still have a z/OS licence, and I am severely opposed to running this on a micky mouse system, especially as all data we workk with are on the host. - And due to the problems with SAS9 we are still running SAS8 and ITRM 1.6, as 2.7 (or 3.1) are not a standalone install anymore, and I am forced to go to SAS9. - When 3.1 came out, some SAS person called me and wanted to sell me 3.1. The little hint was that basically all programs using ITRM have to be rewritten to use their new 'meta-language'. Not a nice prospect, especially as we don't really use any of the ITRM functionality. We only need it to have access to SAS/GRAPH for the coloured pictures management is so fond of.
I have resolved to rewrite all our programs to NOT use ITRM databases anymore and instead use MXG exclusively for reading in data. The little bit of compression that is done vis CP macros I can now replace by something of my own writing. I am NOT looking forward to the next migration! Regards, Barbara Nitz -- Psssst!
