Mark,
        A couple of weekends ago, we swapped a z890 to a z9 BC with 
some unsupported ISV products running under z/OS 1.7 without any 
problems. One thing that you may want to keep in mind is MIDAW's...at 
present, I have set this to be OFF (as the default is ON) in IECIOSxx. 
Some of our ISV products also checked on the processor type and this 
changed from a 2086 (z890) to a 2096 (z9 BC).
