Actually, if you have either CA-1/Copycat or CA-TLMS/Copycat we have a
beta-APAR available to do just that. The TAPEMAP feature of Copycat is being
enhanced to include the current percentage-used for each file on the tape.

That would display;

 Volume #         Dataset Name:       # of logical volumes        Percentage
used:

Maybe I am asking too much. But I figure that it’s worth a try.
