RS, Just remembered a VSAM "gottcha". After initial load yit is better to ALTER the dataset to use FSPC(0 0) if you are using Sequential Insert Strategy so as to reduce the potential for CA splits.

No clue about unreachable CIs. The key should be well compressed - the values are: 00000001, 00000011, 00000021, etc. I also tried to increase CI size. Started from default 1.5k, ended at 18k.
