In retrospect, it was probably a _bad_ idea to make such a function available on the external. At the time (ca 1988/9), I was still pretty wet behind the ears and was just doing what the team leader asked. In retrospect, the _right_ answer probably should have been a non-externalized service/entry into command processing that the sysplex code just dropped the command into, rather than setting a wacky bit on in the parameter list and re-issuing SVC34. Probably looks weird in system trace, too.
