Steve,

The word "leak" is the normal term for memory that is allocated by not
freed.

If all software was perfect, many of us would be out of a job. I bet that
anybody that has done any significant amount of programming has made at
least one mistake in their code, the chances of mistakes in a product with
millions of lines of code is quite high.

BTW I am a mainframe person of over 35 years working on code mostly
written by S*n. I object to being called PC, either Personal Computer or
Politically Correct. :-)

<SNIP>

The problem is the variability of (2) through (4) which cannot be
calculated due to its complexity. Also there is the ever present issue
of defects which cause some memory leaks.

<rant>
Since memory is not a liquid, how can it leak? Or is this how the PC
oriented crowd explains poor programming practices?
