[how to restore mvs onto z9 using combination of only hmc cdrom and ftp] Assuming there are (or can be) dumps of the disks required to run z/os on a z9, for instance full pack DFDSS dumps of z8res1 etc from an ADCD system, and these can be turned into whatever format the yet-to-be-fathomed z9 restore process requires, the question seems to revolve around exactly what can be done by ipling either from the HMC cdrom or from some files on an FTP server.
Does anyone know... whether you can ipl SA-RESTORE (dfdss) from the cdrom or ftp? what device type the z9 sees the hmc cdrom as? (eg for the rest of the ipl channel program and any later ones created by the loaded program) can the cdrom be used as the sa-restore input device eg as a tape? (or is ipling sa-restore under vm the only way, and then how would you attach the ftp'd vm disk copy of the z8res1 full pack dump?) can vm unravel TSO TRANSMIT or TRSMAIN (tersed) files? can sa-restore use input from a disk file? (ie a minidisk under vm) Answers to any of the above would be greatly appreciated! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For IBM-MAIN subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the message: GET IBM-MAIN INFO Search the archives at http://bama.ua.edu/archives/ibm-main.html
