This has got to be a hoax, surely? Apparently not, though.

How can IBM get away with patenting something as obvious as this? It's a
fine illustration of how sick the patent system is.

I sometimes wonder how IBMers can allow their names to be associated with
this kind of rubbish. If it was me I would be ashamed of myself.
