Makes me wonder whether they had the same C.E. installer as our shop. We had a 360/65 with 2 MB of IBM memory, and a 2 MB Ampex add on. Concurrent with this upgrade we installed a CIG multiplexer and Memorex 3350s. Once the response times on the 3350s were adjusted, to eliminate overruns, the system kept crashing, usually when I ran one of my support jobs (an IBM provided SA utility to find messages in load libraries, and provide a CSECT to module cross-reference). Turns out the buffer size was assembled in, and the C.E. had not provided for storage protection in the Ampex memory.
