Ted, You mean he wanted you to use the American spelling. What he called British spelling of English I think should be more accurately described as the Global spelling of English.
It's not a unique thing. Chinese written language has the same issue catering for traditional (Hong Kong, Taiwan) and simplified (China) characters - analogous to spelling. Ron > over the place.
