I'm curious about something. Does the ECKD dasd give us the ability to have fixed record lengths and blocksizes? Can you do that in Unix and Windows?
It just seems to me that the file system in z/OS compared to the file systems on Unix and Windows is a lot more robust. My feelings may be predicated on the fact that z/OS is what I grew up with. But then, seeing as everything runs on FBA dasd, it seems like a lot of extra overhead to translate back and forth.
