Your concern is valid. But you'll need vastly stronger security than IP.
Most of us have to have deadly serious and enforced security measures as
to who can access the server and what can be accessed. Encryption would
be high on the list of things needed for both passwords as well as data
storage and transport. 

And that goes for both physical as well as logical access.  

The days of an open server are gone.
