There are no z/OS Unix file systems that are required to be zFS or HFS
that I know of. They all look and feel the same to the unix application
using them.

My SMPNTS is still an HFS and is on 4 3390-3 volumes. I think 3 is more
than enough to hold a z/OS 1.9 order. I can't tell you exactly how much it
needed though because ours is gone (I have a cron job set up to delete
everything from our SMPNTS that is older than 3 months).

But the real way to estimate is to take the size of the order that is
given to you from the ShopZseries doc and the recommendation is
to have the SMPNTS be 3 times the size of the order (unless you
are also using SMPWKDIR).
