Some folks using the AT&T network with IBM 3745's may be interested in this
heads up if you have not been contacted. jim

Good Morning All,

Hope all is going well. I wanted to reach out to each of you in regards to the
recent announcement from ATT regarding their migration of the SNA DLSW
Service. DLSW is the method for current transport of SNA over the MDNS
network. AT&T is removing the 3745 Front End Processors (IBM End of Life)
by March 2009. This will terminate DLSW support entirely. They have an
alternative for removing this service. They are offering Enterprise Extender.
There are hardware and software implications relating to migrating to
Enterprise Extender. The customers will move from an SNI / direct attached
SNA connection to an SNA / APPN network running natively
over TCP/IP (no encapsulation of traffic etc.) Customer PVCs are
standard IP PVCS. Therefore we will be able to remove the SNA PVCS SNA
Protocols on MDNS ATT Router. The customer will after migrating to EE, delete
SNA protocol, TR (if that is what they are currently running) and the SNA
PVCs on their existing router. As we all know SNA PVCs can be quite
expensive.
....................................................................................
.......................................... We have some time before the DLSW is
completely removed from the ATT network but definitely need to start thinking
about the alternatives. Please let me know how I can assist you with this
migration.
