My feeling is that the only times you should have to back up data from the DR site is after a test or after a disaster. Putting live data there could really confuse things. How do you get the data if the DR site is down?

Much better to follow SOP and put the data in some normal place, take normal backups of it, and have procedures to restore it at the DR site when needed.
