Dave,

If you are talking about tape encryption, there are basically 4-types;

1) Point solution (copies from one application), examples include IBM's own
Encryption Facility (for DFDSS) and FDRCRYPT (for FDR)

2) Copy-tape solutions (makes an encrypted copy of a tape file that must be
re-copied to de-crypt), examples include Megacrypt.

3) Software product that encrypts or decrypts any tape file as it is being
accessed (CA Tape Encryption)

4) Hardware based solutions (includes TS1120 drives and Sun/STK; also
includes physical "appliance" devices that sit between z/OS and the drives)

Your choice would depend on what you want to encrypt and how much handling
of tapes you want to go through.

Subject: encryption on z/OS

What are folks using for file and database encryption on z/OS? A client of
mine has some HIPAA and PCI-DSS requirements they're going to have to handle
soon, and I need to start understanding what the options are.

Thanks,
