When the z9 IBM Hardware feature calls home when there's a hardware
problem (like a FICON Director going bad) is there a way of letting the
customer know at he same time. Please specify specifics if there is a way.

Check into the SIMS level setting. That can display/suppress console
messages when problems occur.
