Mark, Hum, that seems weird to me. Unless the owning system always "hardens" the data to disk immediately. Which it may well do. I am more used to "normal" UNIX systems which only "harden" data to disk periodically (fsync). Most UNIX systems regard I/O as a necessary evil and buffer the <bleep> out of it for performance reasons. However, z/OS UNIX may not do this.
