Hmmm, I remember it as ASYNC vs BiSYNCH; dial-up vs dedicated. First  big 
payfor program
was N1 repeaters for AT&T. Think it was Honeywell out of Atlanta  Financial 
institution. Dial-up 33ASR in Basic! 
 
Then I made the mistake of going to the 'phone store' yesterday to get  a new 
'plan'. Like Dodge City during Doc Holiday, Wyatt Earp era-maybe worse.  Also 
during the years found lots of TI graphics support spilt over  from 
development  groups.
