This is just a curiousity question. It is not a request that IBM or
anybody else actually do anything, OK?

I love using regular expressions in Perl, awk, and grep. However, they
can be very CPU intensive. So, given that IBM has basically made it
possible to "offload" XML (via System XML) procession to a zIIP/zAAP, I
wonder if they would be open to making a "System regex" engine ala
System XML to offload regular expressions. Given the apparent direction
of doing more UNIX like work on z/OS, and given the extreme popularity
of regular expressions in UNIX scripting languages, I wonder about this
(python and Ruby also have regular expressions, as does emacs and vi).

Also, has anybody heard of an official NetREXX for z/OS? That is REXX
which compiles to Java byte codes and should run on a zAAP. If IBM were
to take that and make a TSO version as well ... Yes, I did find a
version that may work at:
