I'm new to LPAR and have what I hope are a couple simple questions.

#1 - On a machine with an existing LPAR, will a CF need to be set up
in order to create a second LPAR using only shared DASD?

No. However, you will have to tell the system (in HCD) that the devices are shared so that the system will do cross-system serialization. (An amazing number of people omit this step to the detriment of data integrity. Make sure _all_ the devices that are shared are defined that way. My KISS method was to define all devices as shared, all the time, whether they were or not.)

If you really don't want a CF you can set up a GRS Ring to avoid RESERVE contention.

#2 - Is there a simple overview on setting up an LPAR for a complete
newbie? I have seen reference to an "LPAR 101" SHARE session,
although I can't find it on the web.

There might be, so don't stop looking, but I personally found the PR/SM Planning Guide pretty good over the years.

Thank you for your help,
Serenity
