All I was able to find quickly was that NVS scales to cache size. A
marketing blurb seemed to say if you have 256GB then you can have 32GB
NVS.

Regardless, it is larger than it used to be! :-)

That doesn't sound right. For 2105 it's 198MB  per LU for NVS.
