Is there anybody listening here whose subscription email address
is [EMAIL PROTECTED] ? If so, please pay close attention.

I have been getting duplicate emails from IBM-MAIN, off and
on, for several weeks. This has happened in the past, as well.

If you look at the headers, you will see that they are unique
messages, sent at different times. For example, two textually-
identical emails that were received (by my email client) early
this morning had:

#1:

| Received: from lsvmail.ua.edu ([130.160.224.250])
| by IMTA19.emeryville.ca.mail.comcast.net with comcast
| id pw9K1Z01B5QmDfE0KwAc7w; Mon, 14 Jul 2008 20:10:43 +0000

#2:

| Received: from lsvmail.ua.edu ([130.160.224.250])
| by IMTA19.emeryville.ca.mail.comcast.net with comcast
| id pyFF1Z01A5QmDfE0KyFL8y; Mon, 14 Jul 2008 22:15:21 +0000

Email #2 had an additional, interesting header:

| X-OriginalArrivalTime: 14 Jul 2008 20:10:47.0481 (UTC)
| FILETIME=[B449E290:01C8E5ED]

Note the timestamp in the additional header in email #2 (the
much-later-arriving one) that is very close to the timestamp
in email #1.

In addition, additional headers in email #2 seem to indicate
that it was sent by a specific subscriber's email server to
MessageLabs, and then it was sent back to THEM by MessageLabs
and then was sent directly from their email server BACK to the
IBM-MAIN server, with headers unchanged so as to make it appear
as if it is a new message that originates from the very first,
original sender (of email #1).

Additional evidence for this are the fact that the emails
are NOT EXACTLY IDENTICAL. The very end of email #1 reads:

| ----------------------------------------------------------------------
| For IBM-MAIN subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions,
| send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the message: GET IBM-MAIN INFO
| Search the archives at http://bama.ua.edu/archives/ibm-main.html

whereas the very end of email #2 reads:

| ----------------------------------------------------------------------
| For IBM-MAIN subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions,
| send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the message: GET IBM-MAIN INFO
| Search the archives at http://bama.ua.edu/archives/ibm-main.html

The most interesting additional headers in email #2 indicate
that the message was sent from a timeinc.com email server to
MessageLabs:

| Received: from mail140.messagelabs.com (mail140.messagelabs.com
| [85.158.137.83]) by bama.ua.edu (8.13.8+Sun/8.13.8) with SMTP id
| m6EMF0L7016945 for <[email protected]>; Mon, 14 Jul 2008
17:15:05
| -0500 (CDT)
...
| X-Env-Sender: [email protected]
| X-Msg-Ref: server-13.tower-140.messagelabs.com!1216073692!11169838!15
...
| Received: from mail136.messagelabs.com ([64.236.84.72]) by
| TMPMSGSM01.enterprise.corpad.timeinc.com with Microsoft
| SMTPSVC(6.0.3790.1830); Mon, 14 Jul 2008 16:10:47 -0400
| X-VirusChecked: Checked
| X-Env-Sender: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
| X-Msg-Ref: server-15.tower-136.messagelabs.com!1216066245!54698242!1

I have been presuming that there is just some glitch in some
subscriber's client or email server (or their SPAM or virus-
checking software), and that someone would eventually notice
and get it sorted out. But, I guess not.

If there are any email header experts listening, I will be
happy to send them the complete text of the headers for an
analysis.

So my best guess regarding whose email server has the problem is:

> enterprise.corpad.timeinc.com

Is there anybody listening here whose subscription email address
is [EMAIL PROTECTED] ? If so, please check into this issue.

That is consistent with the behavior that I have observed,
but I don't know why the duplicate post behavior was not
triggered by the second email (#2 in the above pair that I
received this morning) when it was sent back to the mail
list server. It should have been (I have done this before
myself, even with a just ever so slightly altered message).
