It can be done on 3390-3 vols (I did it with 1.7), HFS MUST be SMS managed to be multi-vol. You need space for the SMPNTS (to receive your order) and the SMPWKDIR (for 'unpacking' space). I found the space calculation a bit skinny. My order size was 5721 MB. My SMPNTS dataset is 17792 cylinders in size. When I set it up, I defined extents of 1112 cylinders each (3 fit nicely on each pack) and let it take extents as needed.
